Shilpa Shetty is quite perturbed that the makers of her 2005 super hit Kannada film ‘Auto Shankar’ are all set to release a dubbed Hindi version called ‘Shilpa – The Big Don’ in the first week of January 2008 all over the country without her knowledge and consent.

The celebrity publicist said, “South movies are cool but they have a specific flavour which is quite different from Hindi cinema. When the language changes a lot of nuances in a film can change context. This might seem extremely awkward and could turn into an uneasy development for Shilpa.”

Along with Shilpa, the Kannada blockbuster directed by D. Rajendar Babu, stars South superstar Upendra along with actresses Radhika and Sudharani . The movie was filmed at a variety of locations including Austria, Finland, the Bangalore Palace and the Mysore Lamps Factory.

This has stunned and offended the actress. Moreover, as the re-release is happening without her knowledge and consent.

The dubbed version even has two songs devoted to Shilpa. The first one goes “Shilpa Shetty, Shilpa Shetty, roop aisa ke lut jaaye hum toh yahin re”.

The second one goes “Shilpa Shetty, iski ho gayee, Aishwarya Rai, Mumtaz bhi gayee… kaisa yeh mail hai, tu hi anmol hai, aaja aaja bahon mein”.

She may one of Bollywood’s most famous faces internationally, but before Shilpa Shetty’s overnight fame and fortune in UK’s ‘Big Brother’ – let’s not forget that Shilpa didn’t excatly have the most stellar of acting careers. Which is what led her to the Big Brother house in the first place.

And while she may now have her own broadway show, her own perfume and is the patron saint against racial abuse – at one stage Shilpa was ‘auto shankar’ Shilpa. Not getting the jist ? Maybe this will help to jog your memory – way back in 2005, before international fame and fortune beckoned, Shilpa starred in a film down south called ‘Auto Shankar’ in which Shilpa plays an scrupulous don who ends up reforming herself through the power of love.

But hit or no hit, we are pretty sure that this is one body of work Shilpa would rather have left in her past. Unfortunately for Shilpa that doesn’t seem meant to be, as the producers of the film have now decided to re-release the film this time in Hindi and the film is going to be retitled ‘Shilpa the Big Don‘.

The hitch is that while the producers seem to have gone ahead with their plans of ‘Shilpa the Don’ in Hindi, they seem to have left out one very important detail; getting permission from Shilpa herself to redub her lines in Hindi and also to cash in on her name for the title.

But in what they hope is probably a conciliatory gesture the filmmakers have called named two songs in the film after Shilpa as well. So what action is Shilpa now planning to take?

If you thought that only Bollywood men like Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan can play don then you better update yourself as now it is Shilpa Shetty of Big Brother fame who will be seen as a lady don. She will continue the legacy of original flick “Don” and will take up action in the forthcoming film, Shilpa the Big Don.

The actress must have denied the Hollywood film Pink Panther 2 as she must be expecting classy role with foreign producers casting her in the main lead. And now after knowing that she will play don it seems that definition of classy is altogether different for her. For S2 fragrance classy means clad in tight jeans and jewelry hung from neck to toe.

I just wonder what will be the hero made to do in the film, Shilpa the Big Don. I guess he will be there to entertain with his item songs and skin show.
