He is only a year old in Bollywood but youngster Ranbir Kapoor already has plans of directing.

The young Kapoor, who made his debut in last year’s  Saawariya and this year’s semi-hit Bachna Ae Haseeno, has already thought of the script and is hoping to start work on it within a year. “My plan got delayed, but now I’m working on it,” Ranbir told and Indian newspaper. “Things will fall into place very shortly. I’ll star in the film and direct it.”

Best Film

A category that had some of the best pictures of the previous year like Guru, Jab We Met, Partner and Life In A Metro vying for the number one spot, saw the much acclaimed Shah Rukh Khan starrer `Chak De India` bagging the prestigious award.

Best Director

`Chak De India` surely swept the IIFA grand awards ceremony as director Shimit Amin lifted the Best Director trophy. The film about a coach inspiring the Indian women`s hockey team to World Cup victory also won awards for story and screenplay.

Best Actor

Well, Big B may bag the prize for blogger of the year but it is King Khan who earned the award for the Best Actor for his mind boggling performance in Chak De India where his role was much inspired by the real life hockey hero Mir Ranjan Negi.

Best Actress

Yes, the ‘Koi doubt mat rakhna’ bodylicious babe from Jab We Met, Kareena Kapoor added yet another trophy to her bag full of awards for her refreshing youthful performance in `Jab We Met`.

Best Debutant Male and Female

The hottest young couple in tinsel town, Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, surely got the maximum eyeballs as they got on the stage to collect their respective awards. While, Ranbir thanked mentor Sanjay Leela Bhansali for his award, Dips once again recited her accepting speech mentioning Farah Khan – the brain behind ‘Om Shanti Om’.

Best Style Icon (Male)

He might not have the six pack abs or the sizzling off shirt item numbers to his credit, nevertheless actor Abhishek Bachchan earned the Best Style Icon award for his raunchy masculine beard look.

Best Style Icon (Female)

We don’t know whether she is the ‘Most Sexy Women in the World’ or not, but Katrina is surely the most stylish woman of B-town The sultry beauty won the Best Style Icon for her sensuous and inspiring style.

Best Performance in a Negative Role

Actor Vivek Oberoi won the bad man award for his role in the flick, ‘Shootout At Lokhandwala’.

Best Screenplay

Anurag Basu – `Life in a Metro` and Jaideep Sahni – `Chak De! India’ shared the best screenplay award. The two movies also jointly won the best story trophy.

Best Cinematography

The award for the Best Cinematography went to `Chak De! India`, making it the maximum award garnering movie in IIFA 2008.

Best Dialogues

Debutant director ‘Imtiaz Ali’ bagged the award for writing one of the most memorable dialogues in recent history for ’Jab We Met’.

Music Direction

AR Rahman won the award for his chartbuster number ‘Barso Re’ in Mani Ratnam’s `Guru`.

Best Lyrics

Javed Akhtar’s beautiful melody of words in the song ‘Main Agar Kahoon’ from ‘Om Shanti Om’ won him the award in this category.

Playback Singer (Male)

The ever so charming singer Shaan bagged this one for ‘Jabse Tere Naina’ in the movie ‘Saawariya’.

Playback Singer (Female)

Youth melody queen ‘Shreya Ghoshal’ bagged the trophy for her melodious singing of ‘Barso Re’ in Guru.

Best Performance in a Comic Role

Govinda, who is popularly known as Chi-Chi, was surely in his element as he went to grab this one for his performance in Partner.

Fresh face of the year

Bollywood’s latest eye candy, Neil Nitin Mukesh was named the Fresh Face of the Year.

And if Deepika prides herself in dating newfound hot hunk Ranbir Kapoor today, let’s not forget the rumours of a romantic liaison between Sonam and Ranbir sometime ago. Also, if Deepika boasts of some impressive offers under her belt – from Yashraj’s Bachna Ae Haseenon opposite beau Ranbir and Nikhil Advani’s Chandni Chowk To Chinatown, Sonam has Rakeysh Mehra’s Dilli 6 opposite Abhishek Bachchan, was even considered to play the lead in Rakesh Roshan’s Kites opposite the very popular Hrithik Roshan, and the icing on her cake is when she signed on Aditya Chopra’s Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi , a film in which she’ll share screen space with Shah Rukh Khan. Essaying the role of a 16-year-old Punjabi kudi paired opposite a forty year old man (SRK in the film) may make for an interesting story.

If Deepika acted with SRK in her debut film, Sonam acts with the Badshah Khan now, and if Sonam played Ranbir’s love interest in Saawariya , Deepika has him for a lover in Bachna Ae Haseenon .

Deepika has managed to enter the bold-n-glam arena, while Sonam has done brilliantly as the sweet, innocent girl.

It is said that problem started between the ex-lovers during the shooting of Yash Chopra’s untitled film in Sydney. The problem was that Deepika thought Ranbir was avoiding her on purpose in between takes, as he was spending most of the time on his own. This was too much for her, and so, she started back-biting him to the crew of the film. Angry at this attitude, Ranbir told her to stop talking about him and his love life. Sources revealed that they hardly spend time with each other and meet only on professional purpose after the fight.

Anil has turned down a chance to co-star with his daughter Sonam in her second film – Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s much talked-about ‘Dilli 6′.

‘It’s true Rakeysh Mehra offered me a role in ‘Dilli 6′, but I declined it,’ Anil said.

‘Who wouldn’t want to work with Rakeysh after ‘Rang De Basanti’? Sonam is lucky to be working with him in her second film after (working with) Sanjay Leela Bhansali.’

For now, Anil has decided to stay away from offers to share screen space with his daughter. ‘In fact, there have been 8-10 offers, but nothing that would tempt me into sharing space with her right away. Unless something really exceptional comes up, I wouldn’t like to work with my daughter at the moment. In fact, she is opposed to it much more than I am. She feels even more strongly about it. So I’d rather wait.’

He lights up at the mention of ‘Saawariya‘. ‘The figures have come in straight from Sony Pictures in the US. And they’re very heartening. I’d have been happier if the film had done better in India. But it has done well enough.

‘Sonam has been appreciated unanimously. People like Amitabh Bachchan and Dilip Kumar have praised her. Sonam couldn’t have hoped for a better debut. I’m very proud of my daughter. She has a long way to go. I think her second film is as exciting, if not more.’

Sonam and Ranbir have even been spotted together holding hands.
Sonam Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor shared really great on-screen chemistry in Saawariya , but this on-screen chemistry has also translated into an off-screen romance.

Sonam and Ranbir’s families have been family friends during their childhood days. However the two became friends while assisting Sanjay Leela Bhansali in his films.This friendship then gradually grew in to a romance when they began shooting together for ‘Saawariya’.

In fact Sonam often visits Ranbir’s home and is quite comfortable with his mom Neetu Singh , who does admit that Sonam comes over to their place often saying, “Yes. Sonam comes to our place often. Ranbir and Sonam go out together often.”

However, now Ranbir’s parents seem quite satisfied with Sonam as his choice.

The 22-year-old actor has been telling friends that many of the scenes flattering her beauty didn’t make it to the final print. A reliable source says, “She has shot far better sequences than the ones that are shown in the film.”

However, Sonam is not in a mood for making unpleasant revelations. In an email interview she says, “That happens in any film. Scenes are meant to be edited for the betterment of the film. As an actor, one has to be prepared for it.” Like most docile newcomers she has decided to preoccupy herself with the compliments received.

Deepika, at a press conference for a head massager product, passed the uncalled-for comment. When asked about the comparisons being made between Sonam and her, the Om Shanti Om actress said, “There should be no comparisons as I am not from Bollywood and have achieved everything on my own. Also, our movie genres are different.”

Deepika’s comment pointed towards the fact that she has made it bigger than Sonam despite not coming from a filmi background. In a subtle way, she even hinted that Sonam is in Bollywood because she Anil Kapoor’s daughter.

The bone of contention between the two actors seems to be the upcoming hero Ranbir Kapoor. Ranbir has been linked to both the girls. Also, their debut films ( Om Shanti Om, Saawariya ) hit the theatres on the same day.

When contacted, Sonam refused to give full vent to her feelings. She began by saying, “It’s okay. This doesn’t rattle me. Everybody has their own destiny.”
