Off-late, Arshad is not even trying to be diplomatic while expressing his views about the movie.

Arshad Warsi chose Chak De over Goal. “Goal is a very good film but honestly, as a viewer I think Chak De was a far more well-scripted and clearer film.” This clearly goes on to show how unhappy Arshad is with the way Goal was scripted and directed.

Topping the list are the aces like footballer Bhaichung Bhutia and Indian Cricket’s latest pin up boy Mahendra Singh Dhoni.John said that whilst he was in Goa last Saturday to launch the Indian Football League, he had met up with Bhaichung and with Mahendra Singh Dhoni in New Delhi last week.

both of them had expressed their interest in watching the film.

Shaan ( Arshad Warsi ) is the captain of the Southall football club, comprising of Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi players. The club is only for namesake, its field being used for parties and weddings to earn the extra buck. There is no coach. The players are pot-bellied and flat-footed. No wonder, the club hasn’t won a tournament for decades.

Now, a bigger danger looms over the club. If they don’t pay their pending lease of the last seven years, the players risk losing the club to the greedy sharks who want to make money out of turning the place into a commercial complex. Their only hope is to win the Combined Counties Football League in England and save the club through the prize money of 3 million.

Shaan finds a new coach, Tony Singh ( Boman Irani ), for the team. In turn, Tony finds a new striker Sunny ( John Abraham ) who has been dropped from an English team because of his color. But Sunny and Shaan don’t like each other.

Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal’ has flaws one too many. Firstly, the movie lacks genuine humour (except a few moments). Secondly, the racist angle is stretched beyond credibility. The angst of the South Asians towards the whites is understandable, but the director harps on it time and again, unwillingly making the coloured ones look no less racist. For instance, check out the tirade of John’s sidekick after John is dropped from an English team.

Give Arshad Warsi a clearly defined role and watch him bring it to life with his spontaneity, but in this film can you blame him for playing out his part with such indifference? Bipasha Basu as the girl-next-door physician seems ill at ease trying to hide her inherent oomph behind those simple spectacles, and John Abraham may be charming as hell flashing those dimples every three seconds, but it’s hardly the kind of film they’re going to be remembered for. The rest of the cast — Raj Zutshi, Kushal Punjabi and the others — over-act just as much as the main leads and hence fail to rise above the severely flawed script.

The least you expect from a film about sport is some spectacularly shot sporting action, but the football scenes in Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal are plain predictable and boringly photographed. Think of the cricket scenes in Lagaan, or the hockey scenes in Chak De India, and you’ll agree that they were original and imaginative and they kept you at the edge of your seat because they were so thrilling.

“Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal” sounds suspiciously similar to an English film called We Are Marshall that deals with the same sport, But director denies any such similarity with the English film and claims his film to be completely original. Vivek Agnihotri clarifies, “It’s true that I was inspired to make Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal from a plane crash incident. But that is the Manchester United plane Crash which killed seven of the Manchester United team members in the year 1958”.

Agnihotri adds, “Goal is not about the tragedy per se. The tragedy is a potent story in itself; it is about a team that is completely finished, a wash out and how they rise from the ashes to win the next big match. In the film The Southall United Club is in deep crisis and is facing bankruptcy and they receive an eviction order from the city council. The only hope is to win the next match. Arshad Warsi one of the players in the team of Southall United Club along with ex-player turned Coach Boman Irani work together to build a team for the next big match. Arshad and Boman are sniggered at but they continue their struggle and build a team.”

Arshad plays the captain of a football team in the film and is an important character. But with the filmmaker having given John and Bipasha more prominence in the film’s promos, Arshad is miffed with the director – or so it has been reported.

Vivek Agnihotri’s football-based film “Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal” sounds suspiciously similar to an English film called We Are Marshall that deals with the same sport. We Are Marshalls is based on a real life tragic plane crash of 1975 that killed the entire Marshall University football team aboard it which sent shockwaves throughout United Kingdom. The only player who survives the crash wants to build up a team for their next big match.

He finds a coach and builds up a team. The protagonist gets a lot of opposition but he fights it out along with the coach. This resembles the plotline of Goal which too has Arshad Warsi as the survivor and Boman Irani as the team coach. Both the films are about a team that is completely washed out but makes a comeback.

In this she becomes one with Preity Zinta in Veer-Zara and Kareena Kapoor in Refugee.

What makes it special is the fact that John and Bipsha coming together after three years. The last film John and Bipasha did together was Madhoshi. now the chemistry of Bipasha and John is different from Jism in Goal.

Bipasha first role as a Pakistani. But she has played a Muslim girl in a Muslim Social called in Ishq Hai Tumse. she got to play a very sweet girl in that. she excited about Goal not only because it’s got John in it, but also because her character stands out.
