A masala flick it is, and a pretty good one at that. Unlike remakes released in the recent past , CC2C doesn’t try to be too serious: instead, it offers comedy, drama and some brilliant stunts that Akshay Kumar not only fits into very easily, but also very clearly enjoys.

A masala flick it is, and a pretty good one at that. Unlike remakes released in the recent past , CC2C doesn’t try to be too serious: instead, it offers comedy, drama and some brilliant stunts that Akshay Kumar not only fits into very easily, but also very clearly enjoys.

Chandni Chowk to China is about Sidhu, a clumsy looser who counts his success and growth on luck. In attempts to become something big in life and not remain a vegetable cutter throughout his life, he visits astrologers, tarot readers and baba’s in search of anything that possibly could bring him some luck. Despite all the efforts from his dada (Mithun Chakroborty), Sidhu continues to believe the conmen in the disguise of saints. Meanwhile, two Chinese men come in search of Sidhu claiming him to be the reincarnation of their long dead war idol asking for help to save their village from the clutches of Hojo (Gordon Liu). Falling to the words of swindler Chopstick (Ranvir Shorey), Sidhu delightfully sets forth to China without having a slightest idea of the danger that’s awaiting him. Throughout his journey, Sidhu dreams of his royal life with his love interest (Deepika Padukone). What happens to Sidhu when reality strikes him? Will he be able to stand against evil?

The movie is strongly reminiscent of the seventies Bollywood movies complete with lost at birth babies, tearful reunions and heroes singlehandedly fending off the evil guys. Well, the latter is reminiscent of Kung Fu movies. In fact CC2C is a Kung-Fu Bollywood fusion, the first of its kind. Another first for this movie is that it is backed by Warner Bros. Surprising that Warner got itself into such an unoriginal venture and plans a sequel!
However, making box office predictions is quite impossible.

Bollywood brought cinegoers a mix of both, massive hits and massive flops in 2008 but this year has some big hits coming our way. Here’s what we can look forward to in 2009.

First,’Veer’ Salman Khan’s Scripted Mythology, and after that he goes back to his dreams ‘London Dreams’ i.e., where he entertains the audiences as a pop star.

Akshay Kumar brings to the big screen a wide variety of flicks and what’s more we get to watch him. first in line, we have ‘Chandni Chowk to China’, a kungfu hit you won’t want to miss. Next up is an action thriller ‘Blue’.'Kambakht Ishq’ worth 80 crores and has a super star cast, the likes of Silvester Stallon, Denise Richards, Kareena Kapoor and of course Akshay Kumar. Now that sounds like fun, but Akshay doesn’t stop there, at the end of this most spectacular year, Akshay turns producer and gives us ‘De Dhanadhan’.

Aamir Khan with his one big release every year and 2009 is no different, we can look forward to his big budget release ‘3 Idiots’.

Shahrukh Khan is following in the foot steps of Aamir when it comes to one big movie a year, so for 2009 Shahrukh Khan gives us ‘My Name is Khan‘.

Warner Bros’ “Chandni Chowk to China!” is an ambitious film, and its music has been composed by a whole barrage of musicians that include Nikhil Advani, Shankar – Ehsaan – Loy, Bohemia, Bappi Lahiri and Kailash- Paresh – Naresh, Rajat Arora, Kailash Kher and Bohemia.

S.I.D.H.U, sung by Kailash-Paresh-Naresh is a funny number that sketches out the lead character of the film, who is named Sidhu. The song is entertaining with a dash of tabla and sitar thrown in. This is a kind of narrative number of the album and introduction to Akshay Kumar.

The title song “Chandni Chowk To China” by Neeraj Shridhar, Anushka Manchanda and Shankar Mahadevan is another fun song composed with chunks of western, Indian and Chinese elements. You might have heard the song during the promos of the film. The lead stars praise themselves and this track might just gel well with the movie’s script. A faster paced remixed version by DJ Amyth is also present.

One more version of the same track, composed and sung by musician Bohemia and Akshay Kumar, is different from the original version. It is also a better listen, evoking memories of “Singh Is Kinng”.

India Se Aaya Tera Dost, borrowed from the 80’s film “Aap Ki Khatir” (that had Rekha and Vinod Khanna) mouthing “Bumbai Se Aaya Meraa Dost”. This is another track with strange Chinese elements that and more or less chugs along.

Tere Naina is a romantic number sung by the honey sweet Shreya Ghoshal and talented Shankar Mahadevan. I don’t need to tell you about the recurring Chinese jingles, but the lyrics by Rajat Arora stand out. Easily the best number of the album.

Chak Lein De has been composed, written and sung by Kailash Kher with a bit of help by brothers Paresh and Naresh. This track is a wannabe inspirational number aiming to juice up the screen. Kailash improvised on amalgamating some sufi tunes and western sounds. A remixed version again by DJ Amyth is also present, but its nothing to write home about.

Though the latter film saw little or no success, Sonam garnered rave reviews for her performance. It’s just another thing that Deepika bagged all the best debutante awards that are usually influenced by box office records, and not just pure talent. After all Deepika didn’t even dub for her film.

And if Deepika prides herself in dating newfound hot hunk Ranbir Kapoor today, let’s not forget the rumours of a romantic liaison between Sonam and Ranbir sometime ago. Also, if Deepika boasts of some impressive offers under her belt – from Yashraj’s Bachna Ae Haseenon opposite beau Ranbir and Nikhil Advani’s Chandni Chowk To Chinatown, Sonam has Rakeysh Mehra’s Dilli 6 opposite Abhishek Bachchan, was even considered to play the lead in Rakesh Roshan’s Kites opposite the very popular Hrithik Roshan, and the icing on her cake is when she signed on Aditya Chopra’s Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi , a film in which she’ll share screen space with Shah Rukh Khan. Essaying the role of a 16-year-old Punjabi kudi paired opposite a forty year old man (SRK in the film) may make for an interesting story.

If Deepika acted with SRK in her debut film, Sonam acts with the Badshah Khan now, and if Sonam played Ranbir’s love interest in Saawariya , Deepika has him for a lover in Bachna Ae Haseenon .

Deepika has managed to enter the bold-n-glam arena, while Sonam has done brilliantly as the sweet, innocent girl.

The present year will see some of the top actors of Bollywood like Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan, etc. returning back to action. It is not that the sudden change of image has anything to do with box-office considerations (unlike wannabe media hyped superstars), as the trio have given massive hits, even in alternate genres, contrary to their screen images.

While Aamir Khan has the Ghajini remake up his sleeve, Akhshay Kumar, the original Khiladi has a few interesting projects, where he returns to his first love, action and martial arts, namely Tashan, Chandni Chowk To China and Singh Is Kinng.

Coming to Akshay’s good friend Salman Khan, who already has a strong action image, the superstar is all set to give his fans a treat through the remake of his Tamil and Telugu blockbuster, Pokkiri. Salman is all keyed up for the project and has self-disciplined himself for the role. He is leaving no stone unturned to make the Pokkiri (tentative title – Wanted Dead & Alive) remake a memorable hit. The actor, who during the recent Madras schedule of the film, visited the gymnasium daily and also quit consumption of ‘Somras’, is like a man on a mission!

The Pokkiri remake has some heavy duty action scenes and Salman wants to be absolutely fit in order to do his own stunts. Interestingly, the actor has refused to use a body double for the action scenes and insists on doing all the stunts himself.

Akshay Kumar is the new king of Bollywood. The year 2007 proved to be Akki’s as he gave four back to back hits, a feat not even the Khan’s have achieved so far. Namastey London, Heyy Babyy, Bhool Bhulaiyaa and Welcome grossed with both hands in the Box Office and took Akshay to new heights in stardom.

Abbas and Mustan are all set to make a romantic movie with the new superstar. Akshay wants to prove his versatile image to the audience and is keen on doing non comic roles for some time. Among the movie lined up for this year Singh is Kinng will have him play the role of a gangster and Chandni Chowk to China will see the actor doing some comedy.

After churning out four hits in a row during 2007, Akshay Kumar is now charging over Rs 20 crore for a film!

Similarly, Akshay hit films during 2007 – the maximum by any actor in Bollywood – include Heyy Babyy, Namaste London, Bhool Bhuliaya and Welcome. And, according to industry sources, Akshay has hiked his price and signed the next film by Venus Records for a whopping Rs 22 crore.

Although Akshay is far behind Amitabh Bachchan or Shahrukh Khan as far as status value in the industry,

success has not gone to the lad”s head and he is neither interested in any competition with Big B or King Khan. On the other hand, sources close to Akshay say that he is inspired by Rajnikanth who has been charging Rs 16 crore per film following the runaway success of Shivaji – The Boss.

Akshay’s next film is Nikhil Advani’s big budget adventure flick Chandni Chowk to China which depicts a part of the actor’s life and is estimated to cost a whopping Rs 100 crore making it one of the most costliest films made so far! We sincerely, hope that the New Year will see Akki rising to greater heights in all regards.
