But trust him to not make a song and dance about it.

“It’s nothing,” he brushes off what any other actor would have taken as a cue for a shooting break. “I was shooting a dance. While doing a movement something gave way in my hand. But it’s in control. No big deal”.

But director Sujoy Ghosh has another story to tell. “Sir is in considerable pain. But he insists on continuing. Any one else would have curled up and called off the shoot. But that’s what makes him special.

When the injury happened on Thursday he didn’t allow us to know what happened. Throughout the day he hid his pain and continued dancing. Only at the end of the day did we get to know what had happened.”

But for the Big B the show has to go on. “Yes, it’s true I’ve continued shooting. Can’t allow losses on the job, as far as possible. It’s okay. Such things happen in life. A ligament in my wrist is torn. The treatment is on. I should be all right in a week.”

Big B is getting ready to unleash three flicks aimed predominantly at kids.Apart from Alladin, there is Ravi Chopra’s Bhootnath and Rumi Jaffrey’s God, Tussi Great Ho where he plays a ghost and God, respectively.

Grown-ups are welcome. But my film is designed as Mr Bachchan’s gift to his young fans,” says Ghosh.

Bachchan, a Bollywood icon who has starred in more than 150 films, told the Times of India newspaper that he was playing a modern-day genie in a Bollywood adaptation of “Aladdin.” And the distinguished, silver-haired actor is enjoying the new role.

“Shooting Aladdin is fun,” Bachchan told the newspaper. “I get to sing as many as three songs, dance and whoop it up.”

He said he played “the genie, more as a modern dude than a costumed anachronism.”

Director Sujoy Ghosh described “Aladdin” as Bachchan’s first full-fledged film for children. “Grown-ups are welcome. But my film is designed as Mr. Bachchan’s gift to his young fans.”

Informs Sujoy, “The Mayor not just visited the sets but also gave a clap for one of the shots. He is aware about the legend of Alladin and found it exciting to witness a film being made on such a grand scale in India.”

Talking about how the Mayor landed up on the sets, Sujoy says, “He came mainly as Mr. Bachchan’s guest. After witnessing the shoot, he expressed that it was a nice experience for him.”

But the report states that since Sanjay was occupied with his court and jail visits and Sujoy couldn’t postpone the project any further, Big B was requested to sing the song. Getting further irritated, Vishal questions back, “Did the person who planted this story bother to reach out to me, Shekhar or Sujoy and seek clarification? Does he even know that Mr. Sanjay Dutt’s song, which by the way is a delightful piece, was already recorded one and a half month back? When a song has already been composed and canned, where does the question of someone else replacing him come into picture?”

“For the information of those who came in late, there are two other songs that Mr. Bachchan sings for Aladdin”, informs Vishal, “‘O Re Sawariya’, which is a ‘genie-rap’ song, is a mad number and presence of Mr. Bachchan has taken it to a different level altogether. It was one wild affair and nothing short of a dream come true when he crooned it. The second number is whacky too as it is going to be quite cool with a mix of urban as well as Bhojpuri elements. Imagine all the fun we should be having once the songs are on!”

One more song remains to be recorded for Sujoy Ghosh’s Alladin as soon as I return to Mumbai,” the Big B said from Goa where he’s shooting for debutant director Vivek Sharma’s Bhootnath. Big B plays a ghost in Sharma’s film. “I’ve sung a rap song for Vishal-Shekhar for my ghost’s character in Bhootnath and another rap song for my djinn’s character in Alladdin. Plus I recorded a soft lyrical number for Bhootnath. As soon as I return I’ll record one more song for Alladin.”

Vishal-Shekhar who’ve composed this carnival of crooning for the Big B, have been working on a non-film album of Abhishek Bachchan’s hip-hop for producer Rohan Sippy for the last one year. That too will have singing inputs from the senior Bachchan.
