Veteran actress and wife of actor turned MP Shatrughan Sinha, Poonam Sinha is all set for her second innings in Bollywood. She left her acting career after her marriage and became a house wife. A year back Poonam Sinha revived her home banner ‘Shotgun Films’ and produced a film called   Mera Dil Leke Dekho   . Poonam Sinha is back to acting with Ashutosh Gowarikar’s   Jodhaa Akbar   . She plays an important role in the film.

When asked how Jodhaa Akbar happened, Poonam says, “Well Ashutosh found me suitable for the role of Hameeda Bano who is Emperor Akbar’s mother and so he approached me.” Did Ashutosh have a difficult time convince Poonam? “Yes, as everything depended on Mr Sinha’s (Shatrughan) approval. It was difficult to convince Mr Sinha but Ashutosh managed it somehow. He is very supportive and encouraging. He was so happy when he saw my look and my pictures from the film.”

Poonam Sinha had acted in films like Jigri Dost and Sabak three decades ago. After that she got married to Shatrughan Sinha and took a full time job as a house wife. “I was completely into my family and my kids. But now my kids have grown, I have lot of time, so I am back to acting.”

How does it feel facing the camera after almost 30 years? “Oh it was great, though it wasn’t new for me. Everyone was supportive. I feel it’s wonderful to start off with such a big film and interestingly it is one of the main characters from history. I had to learn Urdu, which I didn’t know. We had a teacher who taught us Urdu dialect.”

Speaking about her role she says, “I play Hameeda Bano, she was Mughal Emperor Akbar’s mother. This was very important character in the history of Mughals . She was a strong lady. She was the one who looked after the Mughal Kingdom.”

She continues “It was great to see Hrithik whom I had known since he was a child. He is very supportive and it was nice to play his mother as I have seen him growing. Ashutosh is a perfectionist. He knows his job well.”
