Think historical and the name that comes to mind is A.R. Rahman. Though Rahman has himself confessed that he has probably done a lot too many historicals, dream merchants still fight it out to rope him as the composer when it comes to making music with a difference.

Also, for someone like Ashutosh Gowarikar who has worked with Rahman in his last two films ‘Lagaan’ and ‘Swades’, it was difficult to pick up any other composer for this magnum opus starring Hrithik Roshan and Ashwarya Rai staring Jodhaa Akbar.
