‘Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal’ is not inspired with ‘We are Marshall’ : Vivek Agnihotri
“Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal” sounds suspiciously similar to an English film called We Are Marshall that deals with the same sport, But director denies any such similarity with the English film and claims his film to be completely original. Vivek Agnihotri clarifies, “It’s true that I was inspired to make Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal from a plane crash incident. But that is the Manchester United plane Crash which killed seven of the Manchester United team members in the year 1958”.
Agnihotri adds, “Goal is not about the tragedy per se. The tragedy is a potent story in itself; it is about a team that is completely finished, a wash out and how they rise from the ashes to win the next big match. In the film The Southall United Club is in deep crisis and is facing bankruptcy and they receive an eviction order from the city council. The only hope is to win the next match. Arshad Warsi one of the players in the team of Southall United Club along with ex-player turned Coach Boman Irani work together to build a team for the next big match. Arshad and Boman are sniggered at but they continue their struggle and build a team.”
