Shah Rukh Khan replaced by Ranbir Kapoor
Shah Rukh Khan was dropped from Shimit Amin’s next film after producer Aditya Chopra decided to start up his own project.
King Khan was expected to reprise his duet with Chak De India director Amin, but Yash Raj Films head Aditya hastily started work on his film Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, which meant it would have been impossible for Shah Rukh to work on both.
Initially, Shah Rukh was to spend the summer shooting for Karan Johar’s My Name Is Khan, but this was changed to the winter as Aditya wanted a Shah Rukh and Yash Raj release this year. Karan was happy to postpone shooting of his film until year-end but wasn’t prepared to wait any further. This meant that the planned Amin project had to, either be moved to mid-2009 or, begin shooting without Shah Rukh. The latter was the viable solution hence Shah Rukh was dropped and Ranbir Kapoor signed in his place.
Ranbir Kapoor was reportedly chosen for the role because of his Punjabi background.
It’s not a secret that Ranbir is set to work in director Shimit Amin ’s next film for Yashraj Films . And if latest reports from tinsel town are to go by, the young actor plays a Sikh guy in the movie.
Coming from the director who gave the last year’s superhit Chak De India , this project is being carefully kept under wraps by the production house that is quite known for gagging its actors and production team from speaking to media about the film.
However, whatever information that has trickled out suggests that Ranbir has even done a trial of his look in the film. He will reportedly wear a turban for his role.
